Journey to Rhyolite

About

Nathaniel had his reasons for making his journey to Rhyolite. Rhyolite was the greatest boom town in the west, with a population of ten thousand and growing fast. Nathaniel hoped to find what had been taken from him—taken by the snallygaster, that old legend from the back hills of Maryland. Snallygaster was that four legged flying snake that would snatch away whatever you most valued when you turned your back. It took away Annabelle, the love of his life. At least, that was the way he felt. Now he was here in Rhyolite, to make his fortune, to find Annabelle—and to look up the man he had murdered back in Baltimore.

Praise for this book

A very good read Factual cities if you have the opportunity to drive west Nevada Well developed characters and outstanding plot

An entertaining, well-crafted tale set in a Nevada mining town.

I have not read anything by this author before. The characters and the town of Rhyoite came alive on the pages. You could almost feel the heat of the desert emanating from the pages. I live in the desert and could relate. Thank God for air conditioning, something not available in 1908.

This is an interesting book with characters that weave in and out of the desert and all around what's now a ghost town. It's a good book, and it allows you to settle into long ago times and read about folks who might have been walking down the main street of Rhyolite for a time during its brief life. The story is really about people, and it's nice to get to know them. You'll feel comfortable wandering back in time.

This book is a must-read for those who are interested in odd history. Since this town only flourished for a few years and is now a real ghost-town, it makes this story seem even more poignant. The tale of the tattoo artist and the girl is a funny and exciting one that leaves one chuckling about it long after it's over. After reading this, I did my own research on the town of Rhyolite, in anticipation of visiting it soon. Can't wait to see all the places mentioned in the book. Thanks for this little gem!
